Divine Magic of the Night Sky

Early this morning, 3am to be exact, I trundled out of bed to my backyard to look up at the night sky hoping for a glimpse of the Perseids Meteor Shower.  The darkness was lovely and vast and far away stars twinkled back at me in their amazement that I was somehow awake staring back at them! We are one, those stars and I, for both our origins lie in stardust.

What I saw with my naked eye was just a shimmer of what truly is.  I know the Milky Way is there, I have seen its beauty in pictures, I cannot perceive it from my perch but in my heart I know it exists. I believe that the beauty of the universe exists and so it does. I have faith that if I could enhance my sight the Milky Way would reflect back to me the magic swirls of stars and dust and gases that grace this night’s darkness. This moment reminds me that my soul has seen the darkness and longed for the Light. The ‘dark night of the soul’ visits all of us.  It is a journey we all must take and embrace. Without the backdrop of darkness we would not be able to perceive the true essence of the Light, it is that simple.

I love the sky and as I write this I see the rosy sunrise reflecting off a bank of clouds as the day begins her journey. The Milky Way is now hidden within the Light.  Faith, the knowing that it exist even if we cannot see it is part of the Divine Magic.
