Making New Memories

It is said that once a lesson is learnt the problem disappears, but often the memories linger especially when a lesson is a major life challenge.  Last year at this time my life was shrouded in darkness, I walked through the Valley of the Shadow of Death, yes, someone dear to me attempted suicide.  It was heartbreaking to say the least, and the journey back through healing was long and arduous for all involved. It is not a place I care to revisit. So when the anniversary of this event loomed large, I decided to do something about the impending memories. I decided to make NEW memories on that date, ones that were full of hope and celebration, not to diminished the spiritual lesson we all learnt but to refocus our attention and bring new life into a moment of darkness.

The Angels and my Spiritual Family made this happen in a way.  Months before I attempted to see the screening of a friend’s film in Newark, I drove all the way with a friend, tickets in hand but could not find a parking space.  Finally I found a parking garage and pulled in, relieved -yet knowing I would have to walk 10 blocks to get to the film.  But then something odd happened, the guy in the office at first ignoring me at his window finally turned around and looked me straight in the eye, he was a huge man, with deep green eyes and chocolate skin, an unusual combination, he smiled at me and stated sweetly, “We’re closed.” Clearly they were not and I was confused, but he stood his ground.  So I left.  That was it, 45 minutes into the allotted time for the film disappointed I decided to drive home, clearly this was not meant to be.

The next showing of the film was in Chicago on 12/4, the very date of that near fatal memory and I knew where I had to be, the Windy City was calling me. I have had an ongoing love affair with this city for some time as someone on the spirit side who is very close to me came from Chicago; part of my heart belongs there.

Miraculously everything fell into place; it was a magical weekend of meeting new friends, seeing a film screening, walking art museums and yes even attending a hockey game! My heart if full of new memories, the past is a lesson learnt and we all move forward with our healing with the help of our Angels , our Spiritual Family and the Windy City.
