The sandman and I have a complicated relationship. He does come to take me to the land of dreams but I struggle to stay.  I sleep as though I have an infant in the house again, one ear and one eye open.  This is because my son may seize during the night as the fall from this world into the next (REM sleep) produces a huge electrical surge in our brains, most of us handle it with ease, in the world of epilepsy though it can instigate seizure activity.  For the past 4+ years we have had many night time episodes, some I have witnessed some I have not. 

Recently I went to Anysia Kiel who is a psychic medium as well as a healer.  While she was working with me my Mother appeared to her and said, “Tell her to sleep! I will wake her if anything happens.  She needs to sleep!” Of course I laughed, because indeed I do need to sleep. See if the Sandman comes and you don’t sleep, well it shows…the sand builds up in the most unsightly manner, I have the perpetual sandbags beneath my eyes to prove it. So I decided to trust this spiritual message and give myself a much needed break. 

This was a few weeks ago and I can honestly say I have actually gotten four straight hours of uninterrupted sleep, which is a vast improvement.  Okay, now here is the kicker, I have awoken out of a deep deep sleep twice to find my son had indeed needed me.  Both times I was in the midst of the dream world, there was no reason for me to awaken and yet I did.  There was no fanfare, no voices, just simply I woke up and went to my son and took care of him.  Both times I silently thanked my Mom for helping care for him.  Actually she is caring for both of us.  She may be in spirit but she is still my Mom.  I am blessed.
